20-year-old Ben Shelton is back up to his career-high ATP world ranking of 39th despite suffering some tough defeats in recent weeks, although losses to the likes of Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz are very strong company with his career still in its infancy. It was not long ago that the American announced himself on the tennis stage with a huge run to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open but he has since lost four of five matches to suggest that former world number four Dominic Thiem is the slightest of favourites despite his current struggles. World number 111 Thiem came back from a set down to beat fellow Austrian Sebastian Ofner on Tuesday but any sort of result would have been welcome after taking a 1-8 record into Estoril. This could prove an electrifying match if both players bring their best but back Thiem to earn at least a set as the better-suited to clay conditions.
