21-year-old Jannik Sinner set a new career-high ATP world ranking of eighth this week after finishing runner-up to Daniil Medvedev at the Miami Open, his second runners-up medal there after losing to Hubert Hurkacz in 2021. The Italian is improving all the time, though, and this most recent foray into the top 10 looks set to be more of a fixture after injury saw him drop out at the beginning of last season. Sinner joined up with Diego Schwartzman in the Monte-Carlo doubles event this week but the pair lost in the round of 16 on Tuesday to split before this head-to-head on Wednesday. World number 37 Schwartzman grabbed only his fourth win of what has been a woeful season so far on Monday with a straight-sets result over fellow ailing former top 10 stalwart David Goffin. The Argentine may well have pushed on with a kinder draw in conditions that suit him best but he has failed to win back-to-back matches on tour since making the third round of the US Open last summer and this looks too steep a climb to change that now. Back Sinner to win in straight sets and consider the Italian a dark horse for the title here.
