THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova was enjoying a solid season last year before suddenly bursting into insatiable form at Wimbledon, a tournament in which she had just one previous win, to claim her maiden Grand Slam title. The Czech had previously finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Roland-Garros as an exciting teenager in 2019 but a run to the quarter-finals at the US Open late last year proved to her everybody, perhaps herself most importantly, that she has an excellent game for all surfaces. World number 96 Dayana Yastremska qualified by the skin of her teeth to make the first round in Melbourne, winning all three matches in three sets, but she has lost in the first round in each of her past seven Grand Slam appearances. Vondrousova ended last season with a five-match losing streak that she snapped, only just, at six last week at the United Cup so back the Czech to win this likely choppy match outright.

TIP: MARKETA VONDROUSOVA TO WIN
