David Goffin’s re-emergence as a threat in the latter stages of tournaments has continued this past week, with the diminutive Belgian’s five-set victory over Frances Tiafoe seeing him reach his second consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final after he also made it this far in his last appearance at the All England Club in 2019.
CAMERON NORRIE
Cam Norrie had never previously progressed beyond third round of a Grand Slam, let alone made a quarter-final, so the world number nine seed is in uncharted territory here following his fairly routine straight-sets win over American Tommy Paul last time out.
THE PREDICTION
Last Brit standing Cameron Norrie will no doubt have the full support of Court 1 behind him as he features in his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final, but in Goffin he faces an experienced all-courter who has been in this position before. Three of Norrie’s four matches to date have been won in straight sets and the 26-year-old is clearly playing the best tennis of his career right now, while Goffin’s progress hasn’t quite been as serene. Overall, it is the Norrie who has played to a higher standard so far, and while Goffin will provide stubborn resistance, the Brit is tipped to see off the Belgian in four sets.
