World number five Ons Jabeur handed Anna Kalinskaya a bagel in the first set of their quarter-final on Friday before the Russian was forced to pull out in the second. 28-year-old Jabeur will have been glad of the extra rest after as she continues to improve her fitness since returning from surgery but it has been a solid week so far in Charleston, where she finished runner-up to Belinda Bencic last year. World number eight Daria Kasatkina has been struggling with her own issues on tour so far this season but a comeback over Madison Keys on Friday, to whom she trailed 8-1 in a surprisingly one-sided head-to-head, was a very encouraging result indeed. Kasatkina claimed her maiden WTA title here back in 2017 and she would back herself against almost anybody on clay but Jabeur beat her twice on the surface last season in Stuttgart and Rome to take a 4-2 lead in their head-to-head. The sensible option here is backing Jabeur to earn at least a set given that she has done so in all six of their previous encounters but otherwise the Tunisian should be able to edge through to the final here.
