THE PREDICTION

World number five Jessica Pegula came back from a set down to edge past former number 11 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a marathon effort on Thursday. The 29-year-old has laboured to her victories so far this season as she searches for her best tennis but she can take confidence in an encouraging result against Pavlyuchenkova as she takes on another Russian next. World number 15 Daria Kasatkina looked set for a tough scrap with in-form Laura Siegemund in the quarter-finals but she rode her luck with a walkover to the last four. The 26-year-old is also seeking out her best tennis after initially looking red-hot this time last season but wins over Marta Kostyuk and Magda Linette before a consummate defeat to Aryna Sabalenka last week in Brisbane puts her working level somewhere inside the top 30.

Pegula leads their head-to-head 2-0, without yet dropping a set to the Russian, but this could end up a rather ponderous and topsy-turvy encounter. Back the American to win outright, or take at least a set inside an accumulator.
