THE PREDICTION
This is a really intriguing first encounter between world number 34 Christopher Eubanks, who broke the top 30 last summer after an incredible purple patch saw him make the Wimbledon quarter-finals, and 30-year-old Taro Daniel, who will break the top 60 for the first time after finishing runner-up to Alejandro Tabilo in Auckland on Saturday. Daniel is capable of better tennis than his current ranking suggests, with some strong work on the Challenger circuit late last season, and he becomes the Japanese number one on Monday for his efforts. It remains to be seen how he fares after a disappointing first final since 2018 but a semi-final upset of top Auckland seed Ben Shelton this week suggests he is ready to tackle more big-serving talent in Eubanks.
