World number five Casper Ruud seemed to exorcise some demons on Friday in a straight-sets demolition job on defending champion Sebastian Baez. 24-year-old Ruud brought a poor 5-6 record into his first clay tournament of the season but after a shaky start against Joao Sousa the Norwegian looks set to reach yet another ATP 250 final here. World number 80 Quentin Halys will be his biggest challenge of the week, though, as the Frenchman continues to enjoy the form of his career so far. The 26-year-old is yet to drop a set this week and back-to-back victories over former top 10 players in Roberto Bautista Agut and Dominic Thiem suggests he will have a say in this first meeting with Ruud. No player has been more consistent or more successful on clay at this level than Casper Ruud since the start of 2021 but backing him to win outright looks the sensible concession here. For that reason, consider a one-off on Halys to earn at least a set or take a tiebreak.
