World number 77 Camila Osorio won her second Bogota Open title on home clay early last month but she has struggled to push on since, reaching the semi-finals of the Lleida Challenger but failing to make a dent at tour level. The 22-year-old has an excellent game for clay, taking Madison Keys to three sets before defeat in Rome last time out, but she dropped the first set to Elina Avanesyan here on Monday before her opponent was forced to retire injured to get her out of jail.
World number 78 Laura Siegemund is at her best on clay but the 36-year-old’s staying power is waning in the twilight of her career. A superb straight-sets upset over second seed Anna Blinkova on Monday backs up a decent run in Rome and she finished runner-up in the Women’s Doubles in Madrid, alongside Barbora Krejcikova, to bring plenty of momentum into Rabat. Three sets seem likelier than two so back Siegemund to earn at least one off the back of her brilliant opener.
