THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Brandon Nakashima ended last season as the Next Gen ATP Finals champion but the American is currently ranked outside the top 100 after a tough sophomore season. A maiden ATP titles claimed on home soil in San Diego last summer and a run o the round of 16 at Wimbledon are extra proof that Nakashima is too good to stay down for long but he will likely be eager to put 2023 behind him. This looks a winnable opener, though, against clay specialist Bernabe Zapata Miralles as the world number 72 has taken just two wins from five since the start of the hardcourt swing. Nakashima should, realistically, be coasting through this first encounter in straight sets in these conditions but backing him to win outright seems risk enough at this moment in time.
