Casper Ruud and Botic van de Zandschulp met only recently at the Miami Open, where the Dutchman made the most of Ruud’s poor 2023 form to come back from a set down in the third round. World number 31 Van de Zandschulp now leads Ruud 3-1 in their head-to-head record and he came back from a set down once again to beat Marton Fucsovics on Monday to suggest he is ready for the battle on Wednesday. 24-year-old Ruud moved up to world number four this week after winning his 10th ATP title at the Estoril Open on Sunday, taking a four-match winning streak into this rematch against the last player to beat him. The Norwegian should have exorcised some demons with that title, won well at the hands of in-form Miomir Mecmanovic, and he tends to perform well once he gets a run of wins together. If Ruud is going to win a Masters title this season, Monte-Carlo is his best shot. Back the fourth seed to edge through as the outright winner this time around but be cautious with any promising accumulators.
