THE PREDICTION

World number two Novak Djokovic had coasted through his first two rounds at the US Open but compatriot Laslo Djere produced some stunning tennis to take the first two sets before falling away on Friday night. 36-year-old Djokovic, a three-time champion here in New York, never really looked like actually losing the match but it is certainly a wake-up call for the Serb after he produced such a high level to win Cincinnati two weeks ago. 25-year-old Borna Gojo has produced one of the most prolific debut runs at the US Open in recent memory, reaching the round of 16 without dropping a set to back-up a strong showing in qualifying. The Croat will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 76th for his efforts so far but he looks to have handed Djokovic a let off here by beating Jiri Vesely – who leads the Serb 2-0 in one of the more surprising head-to-heads on tour.

Gojo has plenty of momentum and a plucky spirit well-suited to enjoying this biggest day of his career but Djokovic will be desperate to get this match over with in three to make a statement. Take the Serb to win in straight sets.
