THE PREDICTION
World number three Stefanos Tsitsipas is the two-time defending champion here in Monte-Carlo, with both of his Masters titles to date coming at this event. The 24-year-old comes in with little recent form to speak of, though, after struggling with an injury throughout the Sunshine Double but it was not long ago that the Greek finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. Tsitsipas also finished runner-up to the Serb at Roland-Garros in 2021 and he is one of the better clay-courters amongst the current top 10, although it would be a tall order to win in Monte-Carlo for a third time. World number 48 Benjamin Bonzi overcame Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets to pass an early test on the surface and he will be well backed here as the French underdog in Monaco. Tsitsipas has won both of their previous meetings but a three-set encounter at Halle last summer suggests Bonzi can make things interesting against the out-of-sorts Greek on his first clay match of the season. Back Tsitsipas to win outright or consider a one-off on Bonzi to earn at least a set.
