This should be a really fascinating semi-final if hosts Australia can scrape a singles win to force a decider, with home advantage their biggest trump card. Australia know they have the advantage in a doubles decider where doubles number one Storm Hunter and number four are concerned as the pair have won each of their three matches so far in straight sets – including against defending champions USA.
A dedicated doubles duo takes plenty of pressure off of De Minaur and Tomljanovic in terms of maintaining energy, with Zverev set to play alongside either Kerber or (more likely) Laura Siegemund, and extra contributing factor could aid them in the singles. Germany are no slouches in the doubles, winning two of three matches this week, but the Sydney crowd will do their utmost to drag Hunter and Ebden over the line if a decider can be forced.
