NOVAK DJOKOVIC
- Novak Djokovic will be well-rested and ready to go in the ATP Cup quarter-final after he spent just over an hour defeating Chile’s Cristian Garin to secure Serbia’s third tie success.
- Team Serbia have lost just two matches so far at this tournament as their doubles lost a dead rubber with Chile in their previous match and Dusan Lajovic lost to France’s Benoit Paire in the previous tie.
- World number two Djokovic holds a 100% win percentage over Denis Shapovalov with four wins all coming last season, including as recently as November in the Paris Masters final.
DENIS SHAPOVALOV
- Denis Shapovalov secured his second singles win at the ATP Cup with a commanding display over an out-of-sorts Alexander Zverev to come through an incredibly difficult Group F as the second-best runners-up of the tournament.
- Shapovalov has already beaten two top 10 opponents in the ATP Cup after adding Zverev to his first-round victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, and has a 3-1 record over his last two international tournaments if including his win over Matteo Berrettini and loss to Rafael Nadal at the Davis Cup.
- The 20-year-old could well break the top 10 if he carries on this hard-court form but he will have to up his game of he is to beat Novak Djokovic for the first time, with four losses to the Serb in just under a year.
THE PREDICTION
This should be the toughest of Novak Djokovic’s ATP Cup matches to date against a young player in Denis Shapovalov who can do little wrong on court right now. Shapovalov took a set off the Serb in their first meeting almost a year ago at the Australian Open but has since then lost in three straight-sets defeats. There is the slightest whiff of a shock in this encounter, but Djokovic is likely to snuff it at the first sign. That being said, this could go to a decider before Djokovic takes the match.
