THE PREDICTION

World number two Aryna Sabalenka has conceded just four games so far at the Brisbane 500, making a huge statement of intent as she approaches her first Grand Slam title defence in Melbourne later this month. The 25-year-old went unbeaten in January last year, winning the Adelaide 500 before her maiden major title, and she looks like the clear favourite for the title this weekend with Elena Rybakina, last year’s Australian Open runner-up, her closest rival. World number 18 Daria Kasatkina beat Magda Linette in straight sets to continue some encouraging signs of better form this year than last, although two wins on the spin does not suggest she has enough to tackle Sabalenka in this vein.

Former number eight Kasatkina has the potential to move back inside the top 10 sooner rather than later but her consistent ball-striking game is unlikely to get much joy against her opponent’s sheer power. Sabalenka won both of their encounters in straight sets last season to go 5-2 up in their head-to-head and she can be backed to do so again here.

TIP: ARYNA SABALENKA TO WIN 2-0
