THE PREDICTION
16-year-old Mirra Andreeva burst onto the scene last spring with a remarkable run to the round of 16 at the Madrid Masters in only her second tour-level event. The Russian began 2023 as runner-up in the Girls’ Singles at the Australian Open but she went on to enjoy incredible runs to the third round at Roland-Garros and round of 16 at Wimbledon on her debut in a similar vein to Coco Gauff back in 2019, setting a career-high WTA world ranking of 46th in November. At the other end of her career, 34-year-old Arina Rodionova will set a new career-high of 104th after stunning both Martina Trevisan and Sofia Kenin in straight sets this week. Rodionova will receive a warm backing as an Australian player here but expect the Brisbane crowd to get swept up by a clear and present rising star of the sport in Andreeva, who stunned fourth seed Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets on Wednesday to look a title contender. Back Andreeva to win in two.
TIP: MIRRA ANDREEVA TO WIN 2-0
