THE PREDICTION

World number 70 Anna Kalinskaya is enjoying one of the best runs of her young career in Charleston with her best performance yet coming against Victoria Azarenka in straight sets on Thursday, backing up excellent wins over Alize Cornet and Anhelina Kalinina. The 24-year-old’s last three defeats have come in three sets to top 10 quality players to suggest a run like this was coming and now she stands a reasonable chance at another upset against world number five Ons Jabeur, who is still on her way back to her best after surgery earlier this season. The 28-year-old is yet to drop a set in Charleston, where she finished runner-up to Belinda Bencic last season, but Kalinskaya looks ready to provide Jabeur’s toughest test yet. Jabeur beat the Russian in straight sets at Indian Wells two years ago but this should come a lot closer. Back Jabeur to edge this outright or consider taking Kalinskaya to earn at least a set to leave this result up to chance.
