THE PREDICTION

World number six Andrey Rublev suffered an early exit to Jiri Lehecka at Indian Wells two weeks ago in his first tournament since his disqualification from the Dubai Tennis Championships for aggressive behaviour towards a line judge. The 26-year-old has increasingly cut a frustrated figure on tour in recent seasons, perhaps as he begins to come to terms with the severe gulf between himself and the top four, but he claimed his 16th ATP title at the Hong Kong Open at the start of 2024 before a tenth Grand Slam quarter-final reached in Melbourne to prove his clear prowess in these conditions.

23-year-old Tomas Machac will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 57th after beating teenager tour debutant Darwin Blanch in straight sets on Wednesday and he could be the latest Czech to cause Rublev a real problem. Fifth seed Rublev should be rested and ready to recalibrate here but it is hard to quantify how much his exit in Dubai has knocked his already brittle confidence on court. The sensible call is taking the Russian to win outright but you could consider a one-off on three sets between two hard hitting baseliners.

TIP: ANDREY RUBLEV TO WIN
