This should be an entertaining first encounter between world number five Andrey Rublev and number 36 Arthur Fils, with both players bringing career-high ATP world rankings into Hong Kong. 26-year-old Rublev claimed a solid first win of the year over qualifier Liam Broady on Thursday, snapping an unwelcome four-match losing streak after another tough eye-opener at the ATP Finals, but he will face a much tougher test here. 19-year-old Fils started 2024 with some disappointment of his own after a shock defeat in the Next Gen ATP Final but the Frenchman will be targeting a move into the top 30 this spring as his all-court game improves steadily. A straight-sets victory over Marc-Andrea Huesler could have been more convincing on Thursday but he is strong enough to take a concession in this intriguing clash. Back Rublev to win outright.
