23-year-old Alycia Parks set a career-high WTA world ranking of 40th last summer after winning her maiden WTA title at the Lyon Open, stunning Caroline Garcia in the final. The American brings a ranking of 83rd into the Australian Open after struggling to match that week’s level for the rest of the year but she possesses all the weapons required to make a real dent on the draw in these conditions, particularly her excellent serve, to look the slight favourite in this first meeting with Daria Snigur. World number 136 Snigur qualified well this week to make her Australian Open debut and she famously upset Simona Halep in three sets on her overall major bow, reaching the second round of the US Open in 2022.
