THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating and likely thrilling ninth clash between world number six Alexander Zverev and number 10 Alex de Minaur, with Zverev currently leading 6-2 in a tighter-than-it-looks head-to-head. 25-year-old De Minaur is in the form of his life so far and riding a seven-match winning streak from his successful title defence at the Mexican Open two weeks ago, with Sunday’s dismantling of big-serving Alexander Bublik an intriguing marker for this match. The Aussie beat Zverev from a set down in the semi-finals of the United Cup back in January, although Germany went on to claim the tie before victory over Poland in the final, but his only other win also came whilst representing Australia at the ATP Cup in 2020.

Three of their last four encounters have seen sets go both ways to offer a suitable alternative to siding with either here and that certainly looks the sensible way to go given that De Minaur finally beat Stefanos Tsitsipas at the 11th attempt in Acapulco. Back De Minaur to earn at least a set with the lion’s share of the Indian Wells crowd likely behind him on Monday.

TIP: ALEX DE MINAUR TO WIN A SET
