Sydney Thunder won just four of their ten games in last season's WBBL, while Melbourne Renegades finished within a point of the play-offs and will be hoping to take one step further this time. The Renegades are captained by Sophie Molineux. They boast a couple West Indies stars among within their squad, such as the big-hitting Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews, an excellent all-rounder and leader in her own right, while Georgia Wareham, Taylah Vlaeminck and Tess Flintoff are all likely to play big roles as well.
For Sydney Thunder, a lot rests on the shoulders of captain Phoebe Litchfield, along with the experience of overseas stars Heather Knight and Nadine de Klerk. Tall England pace bowler Lauren Bell adds an X factor to their bowling attack. These two sides are well matched, and a close contest is expected to begin the new season. But with home advantage in their favour, back Melbourne Renegades to edge this one.
