THE PREDICTION

World number 60 Alexander Shevchenko upset in-form Fabian Marozsan in straight sets on Wednesday to bounce back well from a hammering by Carlos Alcaraz at this stage of the Madrid Open two weeks ago. The 23-year-old burst onto the scene with a fabulous stay on clay in Madrid last April but he has struggled to match his 2023 level so far this season, ending last year with a first final reached at the Moselle Open where he lost to home favourite Ugo Humbert.

World number 18 Karen Khachanov lost to Shevchenko in straight sets that week in Metz but the result was likely a hangover from his deep run at the Paris Masters, where he won his most prestigious of now five ATP titles back in 2018. The 27-year-old is an excellent all-court threat who took a set from top seed Jannik Sinner in Madrid before being edged out last Tuesday and his run to the quarter-finals in Monte-Carlos this time last month say he can avoid an upset here. Back the Russian to win outright.

TIP: KAREN KHACHANOV TO WIN
