World number 36 Alexander Bublik snapped a six-match losing streak with a straight-set victory over Gregoire Barrere on Wednesday and he did well to avoid an upset on Friday in a three-set result over young Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The 26-year-old set a career-high ATP world ranking of 25th after a remarkable run to the Halle 500 title in June and he made it eight wins on the spin during that streak before a five-set defeat to Andrey Rublev in the round of 16. World number 127 Maximilian Marterer was the last defeated player in that run, losing to Bublik in straight sets in the third round at SW19, after enjoying a strong run from qualifying. The 28-year-old has enjoyed some success on the Challenger circuit since but a spotless run through to the semi-finals was not on the cards this week in Antwerp. Victories over the likes of Richard Gasquet and Hugo Gaston this week should see the German competitive but Bublik, if firing, is a totally different prospect. Back the Kazakh to reach the final with three sets about as likely as two.
