THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets to win the Los Cabos Open final last summer, taking an incredible 10-0 lead in his head-to-head with the Aussie. However, the Greek is in one of his poorer moments of a largely frustrating few seasons on tour and this will be the pair’s first encounter with De Minaur the higher-ranked player and he will be backed vociferously as the defending champion gunning for that first victory in this odd match-up. De Minaur has worked tirelessly to break inside the top 10 for the first time this year but his head-to-heads with the likes of Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic suggest there is a ceiling to his entertaining game at this level – although his most recent defeat to Sinner in the Rotterdam final two weeks ago was encouraging.

Both players have come through their first two matches with relatively little fuss but Tsitsipas’ shock defeat to Casper Ruud in the semi-finals of Los Cabos last week make this De Minaur’s best chance yet at a win. Leave this match out of an accumulator but otherwise consider backing the Aussie to win at least a set here.
