THE PREDICTION

World number 44 Alejandro Tabilo is one of the more surprising high performers of 2024 so far, stunning the field at the Auckland Classic in January to win his maiden ATP title before finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Chile Open last month. The 26-year-old reached the second round of Indian Wells last time out before a competitive defeat to former champion Taylor Fritz but this looks a much tougher start against Brandon Nakashima, who may just be about to get over his tough period. The 22-year-old moved back inside the top 100 recently after some strong work on the Challenger circuit but he still has a ways to go before retuning to his career-high of 43rd, set after winning the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2022. A first meeting between these two scrappers looks set for a lengthy conclusion so consider three sets on its own or back home hopeful Nakashima, who qualified to bring some momentum into the clash, to earn at least a set.

TIP: TOTAL 3 SETS
