World number 167 Roman Safiullin has huge shoes to fill at the ATP Cup for defending champion Team Russia, with Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov and Aslan Karatsev all unavailable to partner world number two Daniil Medvedev. 24-year-old Safiullin won the Australian Open Juniors title back in 2015 and that could serve him well for confidence against the world number 58 Arthur Rinderknech, who suffered a poor Davis Cup with France last month. The 26-year-old came on leaps and bounds in 2021 with an 18-17 record for the season and it will be interesting to see which way the hard-hitting baseliner can go this year. The Frenchman is the favourite to win on ranking but it could be worth backing Russia’s international prowess with a pick for Safiullin to win at least a set.
