The 23-year-old proved himself more than just a clay maestro with his sixth ATP title a first on a hard court at the San Diego Open last Autumn and he will be a consistent threat at the ATP Cup as one of the best-improved players on tour last year. World number 33 Dusan Lajovic’s 18-28 record for 2021 shows a player on his way back down that particular slope and a three-set defeat to world number 276 Borna Gojo in the recent Davis Cup semi-finals left too much to do for Novak Djokovic and Team Serbia in their doubles decider. The 31-year-old can be excellent on his day but Casper Ruud has won both previous meetings in straight sets and taking him to make their head-to-head 3-0 as the outright winner looks a sensible call here.
