THE PREDICTION
World number 29 Danielle Collins won back-to-back WTA titles this season, and her first ever, at the Palermo Open and Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose. The 27-year-old burst onto the scene back in 2019 by reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open and she could be one to watch again next season after excellent progress in 2021. She beat Greet Minnen in comfortable straight sets to make the Linz Open quarter-finals and now faces Minnen’s partner Alison Van Uytvanck for a first time. Van Uytvanck, also 27, might well be spurred on by revenge here but the Belgian is well capable of winning this encounter in her own right after two comprehensive wins this week, conceding just four games across two matches. The current world number 69 recent won her fifth career WTA title at the Astana Open last month and form suggests she might be the one to edge through here. Taking both players to win a set seems a valuable option but Van Uytvanck to win at least a set is the cautious move.
