THE PREDICTION
Andy Murray claimed the best win of his resurgent season with a superb straight-sets victory over world number 10 Jannik Sinner on Thursday evening. The 34-year-old now has two top 10 wins after beating Hubert Hurkacz at the Vienna Open last month and the Brit seems confident of a 2022 season built on form rather than hope. He faces 24-year-old Tommy Paul for a first time after the world number 52 beat in-form fellow American Taylor Fritz in straight sets. Paul came back into sudden form at Indian Wells alongside Fritz and it will be interesting to see what he can do next season too after a fairly average couple of seasons on tour. On form alone this looks a tight call, with Paul’s defeat of Andrey Rublev at Indian Wells last month a stand-out, but Murray looked fit and confident against Sinner yesterday and that can be tentatively backed for an outright win here.
