Juan Manuel Cerundolo played well in a short burst of Tuesday’s opening group stage matches with a second-set tiebreak snatched off Brandon Nakashima in an otherwise comfortable match for the American. 19-year-old Cerundolo is one of just three young players here with an ATP title to his name after he stormed to victory as a Cordoba Open qualifier earlier this year in his native Argentina. He has proved himself capable on the hardcourts of Milan but 18-year-old Holger Rune should enjoy the majority of the points in this first meeting as a fellow clay-court lover with great hardcourt experience behind him already. The Dane lost in three sets to the favourite for the title, Carlos Alcaraz, on Tuesday but he should be able to improve his chances at facing off with Brandon Nakashima for a place in the last four with a win here.
