MATTEO BERRETTINI
- World number 10 Matteo Berrettini was challenged all the way by former world number five Kevin Anderson but ultimately came through toe the second round in straight sets.
- The 24-year-old is in the kind of form that saw him reach the semi-finals of the US Open back in 2019 and he looks to have shaken off a difficult 2020 season with a 6-2 record for this year so far.
THE PREDICTION
Young Tomas Machac is through to the second round of a Grand Slam at only the second time of asking and his ability come back from a set down on Tuesday is impressive on the big stage. He should savour the biggest match of his career to date when he faces the ninth seed Matteo Berrettini but the Italian is unlikely to let the Czech into the match for long. Berrettini is playing well but almost more importantly looks to be enjoying his tennis again and he could be good for another deep Grand Slam run here. Machac will be an easier prospect than Kevin Anderson and so straight sets seems the most likely route to round three for the Italian.
