This is an intriguing second encounter between Alexei Popyrin and Lloyd Harris, with the latter claiming their first meeting in straight sets in the first round of Roland-Garros last season. Only a few months on they meet again off the back of impressive first round wins, with the Australian Popyrin’s particularly eye-catching in a five-set smash and grab against 13th-seed David Goffin. Although the Belgian has been in poor form for some time now, Popyrin did exceptionally well to save four match points in that tussle and he will be buzzing from that victory for some time. Lloyd Harris is better than his current ranking at world number 91 and has every chance at winning this one but there is a sense that Popyrin can blast through this second round on fumes alone. The likelihood that both players take at least a set each here is very strong and if this is part of an accumulator, leave it there. For a punt, though, Alexei Popyrin will savour the Melbourne crowd flocking to support him and he should edge this one.
