Key stats

  • Switzerland have lost only one of their last 42 World Cup qualifying matches (W31 D10). They are unbeaten in 14 (W9 D5).
  • Switzerland have kept ten clean sheets in their last 11 World Cup qualifying matches.
  • Switzerland’s last home defeat in World Cup qualifying came back in September 2008 — a 2-1 loss to Luxembourg. Since then, they’ve gone unbeaten in 21 home qualifiers, recording 16 wins and 5 draws
  • Switzerland have kept 12 clean sheets in their last 13 World Cup qualifying matches at home.
  • Sweden have lost six of their last eight World Cup qualifying matches (W1 D1) and are currently on a three-game losing streak without scoring.
  • A defeat for Sweden would mark the first time they've lost four consecutive World Cup qualifying matches.

Switzerland vs Sweden prediction

Coached by Murat Yakin, Switzerland sit at the top of Group B with three victories and a draw from their four matches, sitting three points clear of a surprisingly resolute Kosovan side last month. The Swiss most recently shared a goalless draw with Slovenia in the capital city of Ljubljana.

Sweden, with Graham Potter at the helm, have a very strong squad but they are going to have to wait for the playoffs in March after they majorly let themselves down before the sacking of Jon Dahl Tomasson. They have collected just one point from their four matches after a 1-0 loss to Kosovo in Stockholm

The abundance of talent that the Swedes have should make Switzerland a little wary of a fight back under Potter and it could be quite an entertaining watch for the neutral.
