Stevenage vs Stockport County prediction

Stevenage will be riding the crest of a wave after the way they grabbed a top six finish in League One. With the scores level heading into stoppage time of their final regular season game at home to Wigan Athletic, Stevenage were set to miss the play-offs with Luton Town scoring late to take the lead away at Bolton. But a scramble in front of the Wigan goal saw the ball be adjusted to have crossed the line by the officials, sparking pandemonium in the stands as Alex Revell’s side got the goal they needed to secure that sixth-place finish.

Stockport County were play-off semi-finalists last season but fell short against Leyton Orient. The first-leg of that game finished 2-2 in a thrilling encounter at Brisbane Road and it would be no surprise if we saw something similar between these two teams. Stockport’s strengths lie going forward with quality both through the middle and on the flanks. Injuries have hurt them defensively and star striker Kyle Wootton has been forced to play centre-back in recent weeks due to his aerial excellence.

Stevenage will try and attack Stockport with them being the home team even if it risks them being defensively exposed. Dave Challinor won’t back down from that challenge and will back his side to take advantage of any gaps left by the hosts. A chaotic first-leg could be on the cards and backing both teams to score is a shrewd move.
