One of two goalless draws in the first leg of the Championship play-offs, Southampton and Middlesbrough now reconvene to see who will book their place at Wembley and the richest game in world football. Southampton’s unbeaten streak in the league now extends to 20 games following that stalemate on Teeside. However, Middlesbrough dominated the first leg and a similar showing this time around but with more cutting edge at top could lead to big trouble for the Saints.
These two teams appear to be well-matched though and the likelihood is that we will see another tight game with the margins between the sides extremely fine. It would be no surprise at all if extra time was required to find a winner, which would see the strength-in-depth of both squads tested. Therefore, the shrewd play may be to back under 1.5 goals with clear-cut chances potentially at a premium.
