Expert prediction for Senegal’s chances at FIFA World Cup 2026

You could definitely make a case that Senegal are the strongest African team heading into FIFA World Cup 2026 and despite being part of a ‘Group of Death’ which includes France and Norway, they have the players capable of making a deep run in the tournament and placing highest of any African nation. Of course, Senegal knows all about beating France in the opening round of group stage fixtures, having done so in 2002 when they went on to reach the quarter-finals.

African teams cannot be underestimated at FIFA World Cup 2026, Morocco proved that in 2022 when they made the semi-finals. Senegal boasts a solid foundation with an excellent defence as shown at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Last year also saw the Lions of Teranga become the first African nation to beat England, doing so in a friendly.

With the excellent tactical set-up of Pape Thiaw and Senegal likely to be well accustomed to the expected hot conditions, FIFA World Cup 2026 is a big opportunity for Senegal. Expect them to take and make it all the way to the last eight, becoming one of the competition’s big stories.
