Sebastian Baez vs Holger Rune prediction

Holger Rune will hope this is the tournament where he overcomes a mini quarter-final hoodoo.

The Dane has made the last eight at three events since lifting the title in Barcelona back in April, but has fallen at that hurdle each time.

The 10th seed opens against Sebastian Baez, who he meets for the sixth time with the advantage of a 3-2 lead in the head-to-head.

Most of those encounters have taken place on Baez’s favoured clay with the one hardcourt showdown seeing Rune win in straight sets.

The Argentine world number 42 fought back to beat home hope Zhizhen Zhang in the first round to end a three-match losing run, but the Chinese wildcard was undercooked as he continues on the comeback trail following a lengthy absence.

In that opening set, Zhang was too simply powerful for Baez before fading, and we expect Rune to be the same throughout, with the conditions favouring the Scandinavian quite heavily in their match-up.
