THE PREDICTION
A lack of fans for a Boxing Day battle between Cardiff and Scarlets is a crying shame as the Omicron variant continues to wreak havoc with the UK’s sporting schedule and as with all URC matches it would be best to hold off on this fixture until right before kick-off. If a match takes place, Cardiff will be able to welcome back more of their returning first-teamers from the South Africa fiasco after a pretty torrid time of it in the Champions Cup in defeat to Toulouse and Harlequins. They are three points ahead of Scarlets in the URC table and look likely to be able to extend that gap against a side who have had their four fixtures either postponed or cancelled. The visitors have not played competitively since October and the misery of the past month is likely to transfer to the game. Taking the hosts to win outright is a suitably cautious pick here.
