THE PREDICTION

Scotland claimed the Calcutta Cup last season and will be confident of retaining their trophy as they take on an injury-hit England side in their opening clash of the Six Nations. The Scots were excellent in last season’s encounter and played the conditions much better than the English. They showed great signs of improvement during the last campaign with three wins and two losses seeing them finish with the same number of victories as France and Ireland. They will need to be at their best to see off their old enemy even though the away side are lacking some key players including Owen Farrell. All eyes will be on how Marcus Smith performs at fly-half and while he can do a good job at guiding his side around the pitch, home advantage can prove to be pivotal here and the Scots are worth siding with thanks to benefiting from a +3 start on the handicap.
