THE TEAM NEWS

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

  • North Queensland Cowboys produced an astonishing late comeback to make it three straight wins as they scored three tries in the final seven minutes of their clash with Manly Sea Eagles to stun their opponents.
  • The Cowboys showed another side to their game with that character to secure that come-from-behind success and as they go in search of a tenth win from their last 11 games, they have been able to include mid-season recruit Luciano Leilua to their bench for this contest.

Starting 13: Drinkwater, Tabuai-Fidow, Holmes, Hiku, Taulagi, Dearden, Townsend, McLean, Robson, Hess, Gilbert, Nanai, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Granville, Leilua, Taunoa-Brown, Neame – Reserves: Condon, Elliot, Bradley, Baleiwairiki, Feldt

Unavailable: Mitchell Dunn, Heilum Luki, Tom Gilbert, Reuben Cotter, Connelly Lemuelu

BRISBANE BRONCOS

  • Brisbane Broncos put up a good fight against Melbourne Storm in their latest contest but a lack of quality ultimately cost them as they failed to hold off their opponents in the second half as their seven-game winning streak was ended.
  • The Broncos will hope to immediately respond here in this Queensland derby and their chances of doing so have received a huge boost with skipper and influential halfback Adam Reynolds slated to return from a rib injury.

Starting 13: Martin, Oates, Staggs, Lee, Cobbo, Mam, Reynolds, Jensen, Walters, Haas, Capewell, Riki, Carrigan – Interchanges: Turpin, Hetherington, Flegler, Palasia – Reserves: Pereira, Robati, Gamble, Hoeter, Kennedy

Unavailable: Albert Kelly, Tesi Niu, Herbie Farnworth, Cory Paix

THE PREDICTION

This should be one of the most keenly contested Queensland derby clashes in the last few years as two in-form teams do battle in Townsville. North Queensland Cowboys have lost just one of their last ten while it is one loss in eight for Brisbane Broncos. The away side will be content with their effort in defeat to Melbourne Storm last time out and the inclusion of Adam Reynolds is a significant one as they bid to make an immediate return to winning ways. However, the Cowboys will be on a huge high after overturning a 14-point deficit to see off Manly Sea Eagles in the closing stages of their most recent encounter and having won three of the past four meetings between the two teams, the home team are just given the edge to come out on top in this one.
