The prediction

Richmond (16th) experienced a heartbreaking 80-77 loss to GWS in Round 12, conceding five unanswered goals in the final quarter after leading by 28 points. This was their fourth loss in the last five matches.

Sydney (14th) are not fairing much better after suffering a disastrous 131-41 thrashing at home to Adelaide in Round 12, a performance labelled "unacceptable and embarrassing" by their Head Coach Dean Cox. They continue to be a shadow of their 2024 grand finalist team, displaying patchy form all year and their lowest ladder position in many years.

Richmond's Dion Prestia made a stunning return in Round 12 against GWS, collecting 31 disposals, 1 goal and 9 score involvements, immediately reminding the competition of his class.

Sydney's Brodie Grundy battled valiantly in a heavily beaten side in Round 12, finishing with 23 disposals (20 contested) and 8 clearances.

Their last encounter was in R3, 2024, where Richmond edged out Sydney by 5 points (82-77) at the MCG. Richmond holds a strong historical advantage, leading Sydney 106 wins to 85, with 1 draw.

Richmond showed promising signs for three quarters last week and will be desperate to produce a four-quarter effort.

Sydney must find drastic improvement in all areas to avoid another heavy defeat.
