Rennes Preview: Inconsistent Rennes
Following the appointment of former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli during the November international break, Stade Rennais have spent heavily once again in the winter transfer window and they have improved but their inconsistency has remained in recent months.
The hosts’ inconsistency has been shown in the last month with back-to-back victories being followed up by back-to-back losses as they come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Toulouse at the Stadium de Toulouse in their most recent outing last weekend.
Nice Preview: Rediscovered some form
Nice endured an inconsistent and underwhelming run of form through the spring a couple of months ago but the southerners have now pushed themselves back into the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots with three successive victories ahead of this weekend.
Franck Haise’s side backed up wins against Angers and then Paris Saint-Germain before then defeating Stade de Reims by a goal to nil at the Allianz Riviera last weekend thanks to a 15th minute strike scored by former Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson.

Rennes vs Nice Prediction
Stade Rennais have not quite yet adapted to the aggressive and intense style of football of Jorge Sampaoli but they do appear to be a little more cohesive in the final third. They now face a Nice side that have been put up for sale by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the southerners will welcome that departure from the minority owner of Manchester United. The visitors will be viewed as slight favourites for this one given their form but it should be quite an entertaining encounter at Roazhon Park.
