Stade Rennais have finally stumbled upon some improvement as they push into the middle-of-the-table in Ligue 1 alongside upcoming opponents Auxerre for this weekend’s clash.

Rennes Preview: Jorge Sampaoli’s Rennes

Former Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli is in charge of a Stade Rennais side that were badly struggling upon his arrival in November and, after a slow start, they have shown some improvement following some fairly heavy spending in the winter transfer window.

Rennes returned from the March international break with an impressive 3-0 demolition of Angers at Stade Raymond Kopa last weekend thanks to a brace from Armand Kalimuendo as well as a strike from Ismael Kone.

Auxerre Preview: Impressive Auxerre

Auxerre, following their promotion to the top-flight last season, have been very impressive this season, consistently competitive throughout the campaign sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table with the coaching of Christophe Pelissier.

The visitors most recently defeated bottom-of-the-table Montpellier Herault by a goal to nil last weekend thanks to an 82nd minute winner scored by Florian Aye. That victory means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last seven matches.

Rennes Team News: Still no Seidu

Ghana international defender Alidu Seidu sustained an ACL injury in Jorge Sampaoli’s first game in charge and he remains unavailable for the hosts, whilst both Carlos Andres Gomez and Ludovic Blas remain doubtful for Rennes.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Samba; Hateboer, Rouault, Brassier; Assignon, Cisse, Fofana, Truffert; Kalimuendo, Olaigbe; Meite

Unavailable: Seidu (Injured)

Questionable: Carlos Andres Gomez (Injured), Blas (Injured)

Auxerre Team News: Several doubts

Auxerre are dealing with several doubts for this weekend’s trip to Roazhon Park as the likes of Theo Pellenard, Nathan Buayi-Kiala, Elisha Owusu and Aristide Zossou are all doubts, whilst Lasso Coulibaly is a confirmed absentee.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Leon; Osho, Jubal, Akpa; Hoever, Massengo, Danois, Oppegard; Perrin, Traore; Bair

Unavailable: Coulibaly (Injured)

Questionable: Pellenard (Injured), Buayi-Kiala (Injured), Owusu (Injured), Zossou (Injured)

Rennes vs Auxerre Prediction

Stade Rennais aren’t quite playing at the level of intensity and pressure that would be ideally suited to and preferred by Jorge Sampaoli but improvement has been there and signs of really gelling have also begun to show. They now face an Auxerre side that have themselves been strong but perhaps unconvincing at times, despite their own good run of form. Siding with Rennes, given their home advantage, would appear the most sensible bet for this one.

Rennes vs Auxerre Tip: Double chance – Rennes to win or draw
