Rebecca Sramkova had an encouraging run in Nottingham as she beat Yulia Putintseva and Linda Noskova on her way to the semi-finals of the event. She lost in straight sets to McCartney Kessler in the last four with the American going on to win the event. That was still a step in the right direction for Sramkova after a comprehensive second-round loss to Emma Raducanu a week earlier at Queen’s Club.

She will be up against Jacqueline Cristian in round one. The Romanian has competed in just one match on the surface since the beginning of the grass court season. She entered the qualifying stage of the Nottingham Open but lost early on to Olivia Gadecki despite taking the first set and being the top seed.

Sramkova leads the head-to-head 2-0 after victories on clay in Belgrade and Bari. She has far more grass court matches under her belt and is in decent form after the strong showing last week in Nottingham. She will be expected to book her place in the next round.
