Real Sociedad preview: Matarazzo’s La Real

Real Sociedad were very impressive following the appointment of former Hoffenheim boss Pellegrino Matarazzo mid-way through last season, eventually going on to win the Copa del Rey, with the expectation to kick on again this time around.

The Basque giants did begin with a 1-0 loss to Real Betis before a succumbing to a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Real Madrid. However, they managed to overcome Espanyol by two goals to one last week with goals from Ander Barrenetxea and Orri Oskarsson.

Celta Vigo preview: Sorry Celta

Claudio Giraldez has done a very good job in charge of Celta Vigo and, despite fading badly towards the back end of last season, still led the Galicians to UEFA Europa League qualification once again – but they have underwhelmed at the start.

Celta started their season with a goalless draw against similarly struggling Valencia before then losing 2-1 at home to Osasuna and then by two goals to nil against Athletic Club at Balaidos, putting in a very poor performance in the latter of those two games.

Real Sociedad team news: Alex Remiro a doubt

First-choice goalkeeper Alex Remiro is a doubt after sustaining a shoulder injury last week. Club captain Mikel Oyarzabal is playing and thriving in a slightly deeper role in behind Orri Oskarsson.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Unai Marrero; Jon Aramburu, Sarr, Igor Zubeldia, Sergio Gomez; Benat Turrientes, Carlos Soler; Ander Barrenetxea, Mikel Oyarzabal, Sucic; Oskarsson

Unavailable: Alvaro Odriozola (Injured)

Questionable: Alex Remiro (Injured), Jon Pacheco (Injured), Pablo Martin (Injured)

Celta Vigo team news: Stefan Bajcetic a doubt

Having joined from Liverpool last week, Stefan Bajcetic begins his time at Balaidos as an injury doubt. FIFA World Cup winner Borja Iglesias remains a confirmed absentee.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Radu; Faye, Starfelt, Marcos Alonso; Alvaro Nunez, Aleix Febas, Ilaix Moriba, Javi Galan; Swedberg, Iago Aspas, Ferran Jutgla

Unavailable: Borja Iglesias (Injured)

Questionable: Stefan Bajcetic (Injured)

Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo prediction

Real Sociedad haven’t been busy over the summer and form at the back end of last season after winning the cup may have concerned them but their performance against Espanyol was much-improved. Celta now travel to the Reale Arena under a bit of pressure and Real Sociedad would have to be viewed as favourites once again as they try to build on their win against the Catalans.
