Polina Kudermetova vs Janice Tjen prediction

Polina Kudermetova has enjoyed a productive 2026, with 40 wins from 63 matches this season. Her best results of the season were finals in Canberra and Oeiras on the ITF circuit, though she was unable to win the title at either tournament. She has also shown encouraging form during the Asian swing, defeating Clara Tauson in straight sets to reach the third-round before losing to Mirra Andreeva. Kudermetova subsequently beat Cristina Bucsa in Ningbo but retired while trailing world number one Elena Rybakina 5-0 in the second-round. That retirement raises some uncertainty about her physical condition heading into Guangzhou.

Janice Tjen has experienced a challenging campaign, following her breakthrough in 2025. She is still yet to reach a tour-level quarter-final this season. She has managed to pick up results recently, as she defeated Aoi Ito and Daria Snigur to reach the third-round in Wuhan. However, she would then lose to Ann Li. That was followed up by a straight sets loss to Ashlyn Krueger in Osaka. 

Kudermetova’s attacking quality should keep the contest competitive, but Tjen’s steadier baseline game gives her the edge.
