The underlying data left them to be unconvincing, but they collected an extraordinary points rate to see them stave off relegation with relative ease in the end.
They now face a Portsmouth side that, coached by former Oxford midfielder John Mousinho, were dominant in the 2023/24 League One season and then Pompey steered themselves clear of the drop with ease last year. They will be expecting to kick on and firmly into the middle-of-the-table this season.
