Oxford vs Portsmouth prediction

Mid-way through last season, Oxford United took the seemingly harsh decision to sack Des Buckingham and replace him with former Millwall boss Gary Rowett. The underlying data left them to be unconvincing, but they collected an extraordinary points rate to see them stave off relegation with relative ease in the end.

They now face a Portsmouth side that, coached by former Oxford midfielder John Mousinho, were dominant in the 2023/24 League One season and then Pompey steered themselves clear of the drop with ease last year. They will be expecting to kick on and firmly into the middle-of-the-table this season.

There will be a belief that Oxford were relatively fortunate towards the end of last year, and Pompey beginning their season with a victory at the Kassam seems a good value bet.
