Nigeria earned their first victory of CAF qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and simply must build on that to avoid the ignominy of missing out as they take on Zimbabwe this week.

  • Nigeria have lost only one of their last 43 World Cup qualifying matches in Nigeria (W35 D7).
  • Nigeria have drawn their last four World Cup qualifying matches in Nigeria (all 1-1).

Nigeria vs Zimbabwe Prediction

Nigeria have been at a bit of a loss for the last 12 months since making the final of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2024 but the Super Eagles may well be resurgent as they take on bottom-of-the-group Zimbabwe in Lagos this week.

The Nigerians had been winless in their opening four matches of CAF’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign but they managed to enjoy a comfortable and impressive 2-0 victory over Rwanda the other day thanks to a brace of goals scored by on-loan Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.

Zimbabwe, as mentioned, are rock-bottom in this group of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification but the Zimbabweans did manage to earn themselves a point against Benin the other day, fighting back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with goals from Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi as well as Knowledge Musona.

Nigeria, with their home advantage, will be firm favourites for this one against an underwhelming albeit improving Zimbabwe side so Nigeria should come out on top.
